Teh Eng-Hong, candidate for International Rep
The International Representative (Barts and The London) shall seek feedback from and represent international students in the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry on academic issues and welfare issues affecting them. They are also responsible for supporting the Vice President Communities and Vice President Barts and The London, working with the other International Representatives (Humanities and Social Sciences and Science and Engineering) to encourage the students they represent to participate and engage with the Students’ Union.
What's your favourite moment from being a student here?
Joining a sports club, BL Boat Club in 1st year was definitely the best decision I made. I also took part in 2 races, Freshers Sprints 2019 and UH Head 2020. Coming from a country with tropical climate, doing sports in winter seemed impossible for me at first, much less water sports.
Being able to meet a lot of amazing people in BLBC has helped eased my transition into a new country and environment.
What's something you've done that you're proud of?
Being able to balance multiple commitments (academics and extracurriculars), and still having a life. Might sound trivial but for a person who zones in on one thing at a time, its huge!
What is a problem facing students and how do you propose to fix it?
Event inclusion for international students who are not in the UK have been affected due to time zone differences. It is my belief that their opportunity to network, develop their interests and skills through societies/BLSA events should not be diminished.
I would collaborate with societies to improve inclusion for events, catered to students in different time zones and cultural backgrounds.
