Annie Mae Wright, candidate for RAG Officer
The RAG Officer (BL) shall create a positive charitable influence on campus. They will select and chair a committee of people throughout the year whose purpose is to choose the RAG charity for their year and find innovative, exciting ways to fundraise for this charity. The officer will also work alongside the Student Engagement Coordinator (Student Media, RAG) staff member to support affiliated student groups in their fundraising and host challenges for individual students. This is a non-representative role and does not sit on Student Council.
What's your favourite moment from being a student here?
Playing in the Water Polo Tournament in 2019 was so much fun - we had a great venue at the Olympic Pool and raised lots of money for RAG at the same time!
What's something you've done that you're proud of?
It has been difficult trying to organise events as Volunteering Officer this year, but I've worked really hard to put on some actual volunteering! I'm really proud of the Online Volunteering Events I have put on this year and the foodbank volunteering that I have organised for Sports Clubs.
What is a problem facing students and how do you propose to fix it?
COVID has stopped lots of students and groups from fundraising for RAG - as RAG Officer I would try my best to ensure we still raise lots of money for the RAG charities despite the restrictions by organising baking deliveries instead of cake sales and sponsorship challenges instead of in-person events!
