Societies play a huge role in the student experience for many students. Every year, thousands of students join a society, and the Societies Officer is the voice of all these students. The Societies Officer is also responsible for approving new societies, allocating funding and collaborating with the staff team to improve society processes.

What's your favourite moment from being a student here?

One of the favourite activities I took part in last year was Teddy Bear Hospital. I was a weekly volunteer and participated in the Annual Safety Day where we taught over 120 children. It's one of my favourite volunteering opportunities as working with children is very satisfying and always puts big smiles on people's faces!

What's something you've done that you're proud of?

Last year I started working part-time a tutor in a private IB school, teaching chemistry and biology. I re-discovered my passion for chemistry as well as experimental sciences and I feel very privileged to help students prepare for their final exams. Most of them are applying to medical school, so it is very satisfying to help them in their career pathways!

What is a problem facing students and how do you propose to fix it?

A problem I have noticed this year is the overwhelming number of events online and new students having trouble accessing all of them. Freshers who haven't yet taken part in face -to-face events are confused about how societies work, how you become a member or run in elections. They also have significantly less support from older students compared to previous years, so I would like to offer them help!
