Zavier Mirza, Candidate for Entertainments Officer (Malta)
What would student life be without events and activities? The Entertainments Officer works to organise events for students based in Malta and liaise with other elected officers and staff to coordinate and promote events and activities to students.
What's your favourite moment from being a student here?
My favourite moment from being a student here so far was way back in freshers. Everyone was still unfamiliar with each other and a bunch of us students all went to the beach together. It was our first time exploring the beaches and we had no expectations and were a bit clueless. We were just enjoying the sun and the sea then things turned a bit chaotic, and my friend had a battle with a jellyfish and got stung a few times. At the time it was a shocking experience but looking back we laugh at it now.
What's something you've done that you're proud of?
One thing I am very proud of is I oversaw running and organising a scout group for the past two years back home. I became a qualified leader and was able to create fun evenings for scouts' week on week.
What is a problem facing students and how do you propose to fix it?
One issue prominent with students today is a lack of engagement with social events. As our degree is very demanding there needs to be a designated space students can rely on and events students can get excited about. I think with more fresh ideas and student engagement we can diversify and have more student enjoying and attending events.
