Kayleigh Chatoor, Candidate for Welfare Officer (Malta)

Becoming a Welfare Officer is a great opportunity to represent students on welfare and equal opportunity concerns that affect those in the School of Medicine and Dentistry. You’ll gather feedback on students’ interests and lobby Queen Mary and other organisations to make a positive difference to their lives. You'll support the VP Barts and The London and Vice President Welfare with liaising with members of the relevant clubs, societies and student groups to identify concerns and implement solutions.

What's your favourite moment from being a student here?

I'm grateful for the opportunities we have at this university to explore and experience different cultures. My favorite moment in particular involves the Holi celebration because it allowed me to celebrate with my friends and create new experiences.

What's something you've done that you're proud of?

Currently, I am also a Mental Health Ambassador and I enjoy speaking to students at my university about issues that are troubling them and helping them to work through it.

What is a problem facing students and how do you propose to fix it?

I think sometimes there aren't enough resources to help students deal with stress during exam season. I propose fixing this by creating a space for students to share how the university can better assist them during this time and then I will work together with the university to ensure these changes are implemented. For example, have a pet therapy day.
