Amelie Pang, Candidate for Entertainments (ENTs) Officer

What would student life be without events and activities? The Entertainments Officer works as part of the Operations Team with the VP Barts (Operations) to organise BLSA events. You’ll liaise with other elected officers and staff to coordinate and promote events and activities to students. The Entertainments Officers also convene and coordinate the Barts and The London Entertainments Committee.

What's your favourite moment from being a student here?

A moment, or rather several moments, I would consider as the highlight of my university experience so far is the several days of the 2022 Merger cup. This was my first Merger so watching a variety of sports (many of which I had never witnessed in-person before) was incredibly exciting, especially as we battled against QM for the trophy!

However, what I enjoyed most was being a part of the overwhelming amount of support and love for all the BL teams from all of the fellow students.

Seeing the passion that everyone at Barts and The London has for our university was truly heart-warming and I believe it beautifully showcased what it means to be a student at Barts

What's something you've done that you're proud of?

This year I have taken great pride in being the social secretary of BL Women’s Hockey Club. I have always given full committment and dedication to every aspect of my role, and the success of each social, as well as the gratitude from club members, has been incredibly rewarding.

Furthermore, I am proud of the welcoming environment that I helped create for the new Women’s Hockey freshers, especially as we can appear particularly daunting as a large, all female society.

I hope as ENTs officer, I can replicate this friendly atmosphere but on a greater scale - helping many new Barts students in the 2023/24 cohort feel welcomed.

What is a problem facing students and how do you propose to fix it?

I believe almost all students can relate to that overwhelming feeling of moving away from home for the first time to a place where you do not know anyone. That feeling of excitement alongside anxiety and uncertainty.

As ENTs officer, I will work incredibly hard to ensure as many new students feel as welcomed as possible by providing a smoothly run ‘Barts families’ system, as well as an exciting Freshers week to help the ‘settling in’ process be a more comfortable one.

I hope this, as well as future events I will help coordinate, will help freshers instil the love for BL that our current students have in order to help continue, develop and preserve the identity of Barts and The London.
