Charlie Sellar, Candidate for Treasurer

The Treasurer will have the opportunity to maintain and assist in everything finance for the BLSA. This means you’ll manage the Association Fund, funding applications, and assisting the VPs in the funding for flagship events. You’ll also be able to manage external stakeholders to find appropriate sponsorship where appropriate.

What's your favourite moment from being a student here?

My best moment as a student here is so hard, and I really can't pick one so I'll list off a few!

Going to Malta as President and seeing the Barts spirit being so powerful it transcends thousands of miles.

Experiencing the Association Dinner and seeing a perfect cross section of how incredible our students and our groups are.

Performing at any Laird Hall show, but particularly the UH Comedy Revue last year was just incredible (even if we did come 3rd)

Speaking of UH, playing for our Rugby and Hockey teams through UH, BUCS and LUSL, and seeing how much passion there is when wearing a Barts kit regardless of Sport.

What's something you've done that you're proud of?

My proudest achievement in recent months has to be pushing for, and winning back the Multi Faith centre in the upcoming Garrod move. To have that removed from the plans and then showing the power of Student Voice through the BLSA has been a real highlight of my time as President. Other than that, does getting into Med School count?

What is a problem facing students and how do you propose to fix it?

At the moment, there is a huge elephant in the room with the BLSA. A different board year on year has meant that we have no standard way of managing our finances, and where student groups can apply for funding from, and this often falls upon the BLSA President and VPs to manage. I plan to change that, with clear instruction to student groups about securing sponsorship, and centrally managing the BLSA's finances and funding grants through Alumni Annual Fund, the Medical College Trust, and otherwise. Boring, I know, but smoother money handling means smoother running and leaves the President free to do the important student facing (and fun) activities that they are really elected for.
