Your Choice for Women's Rep: Emily Brandon or Kaley Ainsworth?

The Women’s Representative (Barts and The London) shall seek feedback, represent the interests of Barts and The London women students, and be their voice on issues they face as women students. They are also responsible for supporting the Vice President Communities, coordinating and convening the Students’ Union's Women’s Forum, liaising with members of the relevant clubs, societies and student groups as well as encouraging more women to participate and engage with the Students’ Union.

What's your favourite moment from being a student here?

While I’ve been at BL, I have loved being part of BL Drama shows (14 of them!) My favourite moment is immediately after a show, when the curtain has just closed. Everyone is so happy and proud of each other and the show. I think it shows just a small part of how supportive the BL community is, and I absolutely love it.

What's something you've done that you're proud of?

I am proud that I’ve managed to balance my degree with many student groups and events. Being part of a range of student groups, like BLWHC, Drama, Project Play, and Paediatric Soc, has given me a lot of different experiences and skills. I have enjoyed being able to give back to these groups and BL life by being on committees, and by being part of running events, including 70 Years of Women at BL!

What is a problem facing students and how do you propose to fix it?

I think the SMD does not adequately recognise the issue of bullying/harassment on placement - reflected in the poor reporting procedure. Building on the work of the current BLSA, I want to push for a procedure that is easy to use, transparent, and validates this as an important issue. ‘Tea & Talks’ would provide a space where people can discuss these issues and, if they would like to do so, be supported to report.

What's your favourite moment from being a student here?

Association dinner 2019 (My 21st birthday) such an amazing day and evening!

What's something you've done that you're proud of?

I’ve been BL Dance President for 2 years and also have been in the BL Dance Competition Squad since being a fresher, overall being apart of the very talented and amazing BL Dance society!

What is a problem facing students and how do you propose to fix it?

I find that many students are worried about trying something new (either a new society or sport) and would love to encourage students to have the confidence to do this through more This Girl Can events throughout the whole year (not limited to the current week of this campaign) regardless of gender, and more workshops and try out events throughout the year!
